New Incoming Grad Students at 2024 Grad Expo

As we continue to celebrate the successful start of the academic school year, Georgia Tech’s Office of Graduate Education welcomes 10,730 new graduate students, a 26% increase from last year.

This growth is largely due to the increased popularity of Tech’s online master's programs, which have seen a 37% surge in new enrollments, totaling 7,190 new students.

“The 37% increase in new student enrollment in Georgia Tech’s online master’s programs aligns with overall trends in the graduate landscape that we’ve observed – a desire for targeted, yet flexible online and hybrid learning models that leads to employment in high-demand jobs. It’s an added benefit that these programs are a real bargain at Georgia Tech,” said Joy Olabisi, assistant vice provost for Graduate Education.

In addition to the overall growth in numbers, Georgia Tech is also proud of the increasing diversity among its graduate students. From Fall 2023 to Fall 2024, Hispanic graduate students rose by 44%, from 566 to 814, while Black/African American student enrollment increased by 36%, from 443 to 602. This reflects the Institute's ongoing efforts to create an inclusive environment that welcomes students from all backgrounds.

The total graduate student enrollment at Georgia Tech now stands at 33,315, a 17% increase from last year. The Atlanta campus alone is home to 8,333 of these students, with 3,953 pursuing Ph.D.s. These numbers underscore the critical role graduate students play in the Institute's mission.

“Graduate students play an integral role in enhancing Georgia Tech’s reputation as a leading research institution,” said Olabisi. “We’re excited to see that so many graduate applicants see Georgia Tech as a place where they not only develop as leaders but also shape the future through technological advancements.”

Furthermore, Georgia Tech has seen a 20% increase in B.S. to M.S. enrollment, a testament to the success of its accelerated pathways for current B.S. students.

As Olabisi explained, “More of Tech’s graduate programs are establishing accelerated pathways to M.S. degrees for current B.S. students, which is an attractive recruiting strategy because it enhances career opportunities in a familiar context, minimizing transitional challenges while providing a financial bargain.”

As Georgia Tech continues to expand and diversify its graduate programs, it remains committed to providing students with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, both academically and professionally. This new school year promises to be an exciting chapter in the Institute's storied history, with graduate students leading the charge in shaping the future of technology and innovation.
