The Institute for Matter & Systems (IMS) invites you to participate in a rapid response workshop on Thursday, December 11 (12:30–4:30 PM) to help shape Georgia Tech’s strategy for quantum infrastructure. This IMS-led initiative aims to strengthen our research ecosystem, identify gaps and opportunities, and position GT for upcoming federal opportunities—including NSF NNCI renewal and NSF National Quantum Virtual Laboratory (NQVL) calls.

Workshop Goals:

  • Reboot conversations with the quantum research community on campus
  • Establish a baseline understanding of GT’s existing capabilities.
  • Identify the most pressing quantum infrastructure gaps across the full stack (fabrication, characterization, testbeds, and hardware/software access).
  • Surface priority areas that warrant deeper, focused workshops in the spring.
  • Define a full-stack quantum infrastructure vision for GT, spanning fabrication, characterization, testbeds, and access to quantum hardware/software.
  • Explore how application-driven needs inform fundamental research directions.
    • Discuss research partnerships, industry engagement, and workforce development.

Tentative Agenda:

  • 12:30–12:45 PM Networking & Grab Lunch
  • 12:45–1:15 PM Welcome & Objectives (Martin Mourigal, Mike Filler)
  • 1:15–2:00 PM Session 1: From fundamentals to applications across the quantum stack
  • 2:00–2:45 PM Session 2: Fabrication and characterization of quantum systems
  • 2:45–3:00 PM Short Break
  • 3:00–3:45 PM Session 3: Applications, Access to Quantum Hard/Software, Software Stacks, Testbeds
  • 3:45 PM-4:30PM Breakouts/Feedback/Ideas along the three sessions to produce 2-3 pages report
