When it comes to making a smooth transition to becoming a student at Georgia Tech, there are events, programs, and resources you'll want to take advantage of.
Fall 2022 Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO)
In addition to the orientation that your individual program might hold (which you should attend), Graduate Studies hosts several orientation sessions prior to the start of classes to introduce you to campuswide resources and policies. New students have two options to attend orientation:
- Attend one of several live, virtual or in person orientation sessions. These sessions will be held in the two weeks preceding the first day of classes. Registration (login required) will open June 29 at 9am EDT. All sessions are identical and you only need to register for and attend one session. The session schedule and registration link will appear here in early summer.
GradIO Session | Format | Date | Time |
---|---|---|---|
Session 1 | Virtual | Tuesday, August 9 | 9:00 - 10:00 am EDT (UTC-4) |
Session 2 | Virtual | Thursday, August 11 | 2:00 - 3:00 pm EDT (UTC-4) |
Session 3 | Virtual | Tuesday, August 16 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT (UTC-4) |
Session 4 | In Person | Thursday, August 18 | 10:00 - 11:00 am EDT (UTC-4) |
Session 5 | In Person | Thursday, August 18 | 2:00 - 3:00 pm EDT (UTC-4) |
Session 6 | In Person | Thursday, August 18 | 4:00 - 5:00 pm EDT (UTC-4) |
- Access an asynchronous virtual orientation via Canvas, Tech's learning management system. Admitted students will be given access to this site in late July. Once available, log into Canvas and look for a course titled “Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO).” If you do not see this course available, you can self-enroll by clicking the link below (to be made available in late July).
- In-person options are subject to change based on evolving campus operations due to Covid-19.
GradExpo
Every August we host the GradExpo resource fair to help new graduate students learn about campus services and student organizations. The fall 2022 GradExpo will be held in person on Thursday, August 18 from 10AM to 4PM in Clough Commons 1st and 2nd floor Atrium. Learn more.
GT6000 (Grad Groups)
We also coordinate an extended orientation course called "GT6000 (Grad Groups)." If you're a new graduate student looking to meet other students from across campus, this program is perfect for you. Learn from an older graduate student about what it takes to be successful at Tech and get exposure to campus departments who are here to serve your needs.
Graduate Student Welcome
Beginning in August 2018, Tech hosted its first Graduate Student Welcome for all new graduate students. The event includes a convocation followed by the Graduate Student Picnic. The 2021 Grad Welcome was held on September 1. You can watch the live stream of this event here. 2022 event details TBA.
Welcome to Tech Videos
We've also created a series of Welcome to Tech videos to help you familiarize yourself with our office and all that Tech has to offer.
