When it comes to making a smooth transition to becoming a student at Georgia Tech, there are events, programs, and resources you'll want to take advantage of.
Spring 2022 Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO)
In addition to the orientation that your individual program might hold (which you should attend), Graduate Studies hosts several orientation sessions prior to the start of classes to introduce you to campuswide resources and policies. New students have two options to attend orientation:
- Attend one of several live, virtual or in person orientation sessions. These sessions will be held in the two weeks preceding the first day of classes. Registration (login required) will open December 1 at 9am EDT. All sessions are identical and you only need to register for and attend one session.
|Session 1 Slides | Recording||Virtual||Thursday, January 6||2:00 - 3:00 pm EST (UTC-5)|
|Session 2 Slides | Recording||Tuesday, January 11||11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST (UTC-5)|
- Access an asynchronous virtual orientation via Canvas, Tech's learning management system. Admitted students will be given access to this site in late December. Once available, log into Canvas and look for a course titled “Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO).” If you do not see this course available, you can self-enroll by clicking the link below (to be made available in late December).
- In-person options are subject to change based on evolving campus operations due to Covid-19.
Fall 2021 Town Hall
On July 21, 2021, the Office of Graduate Studies hosted a Town Hall with campus partners to help students prepare for the fall semester. The recording and slides are linked below.
Every August we host the GradExpo resource fair to help new graduate students learn about campus services and student organizations. The fall 2021 GradExpo will be held in person on Thursday, August 19 from 10AM to 4PM in Clough Commons 1st and 2nd floor Atrium. Learn more.
Grad Groups (GT6000)
We also coordinate an extended orientation called "Grad Groups." If you're a new graduate student looking to meet other students from across campus, this program is perfect for you. Learn from an older graduate student about what it takes to be successful at Tech and get exposure to campus departments who are here to serve your needs.
Graduate Student Welcome
Beginning in August 2018, Tech hosted its first Graduate Student Welcome for all new graduate students. The event includes a convocation followed by the Graduate Student Picnic. The 2020 Grad Welcome was held on August 21. You can watch the live stream of this event here. 2021 event details TBA.
