Come to the Library's third-floor Crosland Tower retroTECH lab Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a group viewing of one of the Long Now Foundation’s lecture series and enjoy the conversation it sparks.

This month's video is "Art & Science of Deep Time: Conceiving the Inconceivable in the 19th Century." Historian Caroline Winterer gave this talk in 2020, locating the emergence of the idea of deep time, i.e. thinking about 10,000 years at a time.

retroTECH’s Long Now Lecture Series is part of our charge to create the future by exploring and preserving our technological pasts. Each month we’ll dip into the archive at longnow.org and find a talk that connects with retroTECH’s research concern -- how our lives shape technology, and are shaped by it, over time – and follow that with an open discussion guided by a Georgia Tech librarian, archivist, or faculty member.
