The ARCS Scholar Award recognizes outstanding doctoral students who have a record of past achievement and who show exceptional promise of making a significant contribution to the worldwide advancement of science and technology.

Eligibility

Candidates must:

  1. be citizens of the United States (U.S. Permanent Residents are not eligible to apply);
  2. be enrolled as full-time PhD students in an eligible program (see list below);
  3. have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher; and
  4. have at least 2-3 years of study remaining. Note: continuing scholars must be in the program for at least two full years for a December graduation date during their third year to qualify.

Students pursuing doctoral studies in any of the following schools may apply:

College of Computing

  • School of Computer Science - All departments and programs

College of Engineering

  • School of Aerospace Engineering (AE) - All departments and programs
  • School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering - All departments and programs
  • School of Civil & Environmental Engineering - All departments and programs
  • School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) - All departments and programs
  • School of Industrial and Systems Engineering - All departments and programs
  • School of Materials Science Engineering - All departments and programs
  • School of Mechanical Engineering (ME) - All departments and programs

College of Sciences

  • School of Biological Sciences - All departments and programs
  • School of Chemistry and Biochemistry - All departments and programs
  • School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences - All departments and programs
  • School of Mathematics - All departments and programs
  • School of Physics - All departments and programs
  • School of Psychology - All departments and programs

Interdisciplinary

  • Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization (jointly sponsored by the College of Computing, School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and the School of Mathematics)
  • Bioinformatics (spans six academic units within the College of Engineering, College of Science, and College of Computing)
  • Quantitative Biosciences (50 participating program faculty representing six participating Schools within the College of Sciences)

Joint Program at Georgia Tech and Emory University

  • Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) (Interdisciplinary faculty from Colleges of Engineering, Computing, Sciences, and Architecture as well as Emory University School of Medicine)
     

2024-2025 Competition

Applications & faculty recommendation letters must be submitted in electronic format by Sunday July 21 by 11:59 p.m. via the Georgia Tech InfoReady internal competition platform.

Important Dates

  • July 21: Internal deadline for complete application (student application and faculty recommendation letter)
  • Mid-August: Selected Scholars will be notified
    September 9: Deadline for selected Scholars to complete data form and upload requested documents.
  • Late October/Early November: Scholars mail handwritten "thank you" letters to donors
  • November 13*: Scholar Awards Celebration. *Unless extenuating circumstances prohibit, selected scholars are required to attend the in-person 2024 Scholar Awards Celebration.
  • March/April: Scholars send update of activities/research to donors.
