I earned a degree from an English-speaking institution; do I need to submit additional proof of English proficiency?

Applicants may satisfy the English language proficiency requirement by providing evidence of a degree earned from a regionally accredited (or international equivalent) university or college where English was the sole official language of instruction.

You must provide official proof that your degree has been awarded, such as:

  • A final transcript showing the degree-awarded date, or
  • An official degree certificate

This documentation must come from the institution where English was the sole official language of instruction and must be submitted at least 30 days before the start of the term to which you applied.

To expedite this review, you should upload one of the following to your application:

  • a transcript indicating English is the sole official language of instruction, or
  • a Medium of Instruction certificate or other official university document stating that English is the sole official language of instruction.

Our office will manually verify submitted documents. If we determine that English is not the sole official language of instruction, you must meet this requirement through one of the approved methods listed on https://grad.gatech.edu/english-proficiency.
